The shape-shifter, the fool, Hermes and Mercurius: the figure who breaks rules, crosses boundaries and makes change possible by making fun of order. Jung wrote on the trickster figure in connection with the Winnebago cycle; in the tarot he is the Fool and the Magus, with the ape of Thoth as his tell.
