The four worlds
Kabbalah describes four worlds, one for each letter of the Name, and the Tree of Life repeats in each of them. In the tarot the four suits are the ten Sephiroth in the four worlds, and the four ranks of court are the four worlds in each suit.
Atziluth אצילות
The world of emanation
The archetypal world, the fire of pure emanation before anything has a form. The Wands, the Knights and the first letter Yod belong here. In colour it is the King scale, the colours Harris used most on the trumps.
Briah בריאה
The world of creation
The creative world, the great sea in which the archetypes take their first shape. The Cups, the Queens and the first Heh belong here. Its colours are the Queen scale, the more familiar set (Chesed blue, Geburah red, Tiphareth gold).
Yetzirah יצירה
The world of formation
The formative world, where shapes are worked out in detail by the mind. The Swords, the Princes and the letter Vau belong here. Its colours are the Prince scale, mixtures of the two above.
Assiah עשיה
The world of action
The material world, action and matter, the finished thing. The Disks, the Princesses and the final Heh belong here. Its colours are the Princess scale, the flecked and mixed colours of matter.
